It began with one man with one dream.

Through sheer hard work and determination, that man, Rick Taplin, built a water treatment business that is still going strong nearly four decades later.

In the mid-1980s, Rick began working for a local water treatment business and realized he quickly had acquired the expertise to strike it out on his own.

That dream was solidified with the formation of Taplin Soft Water in 1987.

With no customers and an inventory of three water softeners, Rick took a chance that his ambition would provide water treatment solutions to the growing northwest suburban area in the late 80s.

Fast forward to today, and the business, rebranded as Taplin Water, has a customer base that stretches from Fargo to Farmington.

Thousands of loyal customers are the backbone of the business and are why Taplin Water remains one of the most trusted names in the Twin Cities.

In 2024, Rick retired, almost 40 years after founding his company, which proved to be his life's work. Taplin Water is now run by Tony Taplin, Rick's son and second-generation owner.
